MURAI KAMPUNG (Oriental magpie-robin)



The oriental magpie-robin (Copsychus saularis) is a small passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member of the thrush familyTurdidae, but now considered an Old World flycatcher. They are distinctive black and white birds with a long tail that is held upright as they forage on the ground or perch conspicuously. Occurring across most of the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia, they are common birds in urban gardens as well as forests. They are particularly well known for their songs and were once popular as cagebirds. The oriental magpie-robin is considered the national bird of Bangladesh.

Burung Murai Kampung (bahasa Inggeris: "Magpie Robin") merupakan salah satu daripada haiwan terlindung yang terdapat diMalaysia. Pemburuannya memerlukan lesen pemburuan. Nama sainsnya ialah Copsychus saulari. Murai Kampung ialah burungpasserine kecil yang dahulunya dikelas
kan sebagai ahli Thrush keluarga Turdidae, tetapi kini dianggap sebagai penangkap lalat Dunia Lama ("Old World flycatcher"). Ia merupalan burung menonjol dengan warna hitam putih dengan ekor yang menegak ketika ia mencari makan di tanah atau bertenggek dengan jelas. Taburan di kebanyakan benua India dan sebahagia Asia Tenggara, ia merupakan burung biasa di taman bandar dan juga di hutan. Ia dikenali bagi nyanyiannya dan pernah popular sebagai burung berlagu.
